Here is a portion of one of the large bronze panels at the base of the Victory Column. I think this one depicts the Prussian army marching into Paris in 1870. When the French arrived in Berlin at the end of WW2, they (not surprisingly) considered these panels offensive, and removed them. The panels were not returned to Germany and reinstalled until the late 1980s. The bullet holes in this panel were probably not part of the original design.
