There were so many locks, that sections of the chain link fence were buckling. One of the sections broke off and fell into the river. Fortunately, it did not strike one of the many boats carrying tourists and cargo. The city was finally forced to respond to a clear danger. A few days after we left Paris, crews removed the fencing and locks, and replaced them with plexiglass panels. The city may eventually provide another, safer, structure where lovers can attach their locks.
