Pigeon Point Lighthouse, one of the tallest on the US west coast, is located just off the coastal highway, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. The tower is closed to visitors, because of structural defects, until funds can be raised for a restoration. The surrounding site is a state historic park, and the keeper's quarters are currently being run as a hostel.
